Making Good Health a “Man-Thing”

Make a commitment to better health. It will increase your chances of being around for many more of life’s celebrations. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reports the average life expectancy to be 75.2 years for men and 80.4 years for women. Does that make man the weaker sex? No, it just makes him the one least likely to practice preventative health care and healthy lifestyle habits.

With nine hospitals and institutes, Detroit Medical Center, offers comprehensive services that can help men of all ages and the entire family take control of their health. DMC physicians are listed among the nation’s top doctors, and use the most advanced technology available. In addition to the wide range of health care services for the entire family, DMC hospitals and physicians offer specialized care for the leading causes of death and illness of men, including these top four:

NO. 1 HEART DISEASE

Harper University Hospital has specialists in heart failure, minimally invasive cardiac procedures, cardiovascular services, an advanced Cardiac Catheterization Lab and a 64-slice CT scanner, which gives physicians unprecedented detail in images of the heart. Sinai-Grace Hospital offers a comprehensive heart center and cardiac rehabilitation. It is one of only 10 hospitals in the nation awarded a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant to help set national standards for cardiac care. Through the grant, Sinai-Grace offers a free Healthy Heart Program to help area residents with who have heart disease or the risk factors. The Healthy Heart Team visits four community sites weekly: Greater Grace, Evangelical Manor, Eden Manor and Northwest Activities Center.“

NO. 2 CANCER

An entire patient unit at Sinai-Grace Hospital is dedicated to cancer care. Sinai-Grace’s Radiation Oncology Center offers the
most advanced radiation therapy technology and its affiliation with the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, gives Sinai-Grace patients access to the most sophisticated cancer treatments
