Q & A With Baptist Times

Q: After having my child I gained a great deal of weight. My husband tells me all the time that he loves my size. I have a history of hypertension and diabetes in my family. Am I wrong to consider losing weight even though my husband prefers me this at this size?

F. Buckley - Southfield, MI

A. You should always consider your health first. Your husband may prefer you at your current weight; however he will surely understand medical reasons for losing weight. It would be helpful to take your husband with you to your next physician visit. This way, your Doctor can explain the heath benefits of weight loss first hand to him.

Q. My retired mom is on a fixed income and says she cannot afford to pay her tithes. I have noticed that she frequents the local casino often. I fear that she is addicted to gambling. I also fear that she will lose her blessings if I do not pay her tithes for her. Should I continue to pay her tithes for her?

T. Langston - Detroit, MI

A. Tithing is a personal sacrifice made between a believer and God. You should not pay the tithes of your mother under any circumstances. Her tithe should come from her. As it relates to her gambling, you should consult a gambling hotline for advice on how to confront a chronic gambler
